Le Domaine de Balme skiing area is located between 1453 m si 2270 m altitude, in the heart of French Alps natural landscape.
The area can be reached via Le Tour and Vallorcine villages, situated near Chamonix. The skiing pistes of this area stretch along the two slopes of the mountain. The whole Chamonix Valley can be viewed from Charamillon slopes. There are three ski slopes on the Vallorcine side, neighboring Switzerland.
Balme Ski Area opens for winter sports on 19th of December and closes at the end of April.
The main skiing area numbers a total of 11 blue slopes, 9 red slopes and a single black slope for the most experienced skiers and snowboarders.
A new Chairlift facility built recently on the Vallorcine side, opened the area more, adding 5 more ski slopes plus off-piste opportunities.
A very interesting and idyllic off-piste slope goes down between the trees, ending at Vallorcine Train Station. Near the train station you can relax in one of the apros-ski bars and restaurants and then take the train for a trip to Chamonix. At Charamillon there are plenty of restaurants. To le Tour you can take the bus and if you come by car you’ll have enough parking places to leave your car.
Chalet de Charamillon restaurant is open during winter time and well as during the warm season. The restaurant is found on top of Le Tour Cable Car.
There are 250 sitting places in the main hall and 350 on the terrace. At this large mountain hut you can taste local dishes and specialties, sandwiches and refreshments. On the first floor you may find a kiosk where you can buy crepes, ice-cream and souvenirs. Near Chalet de Charamillon mountain hut one can find a picnic area.
